Reproductive Services
Reproductive Services in Lincoln, AR
Welcome to Smithers Animal Hospital-Lincoln, where our experienced team helps animal breeders with reproductive services in the areas of infertility, breeding, insemination, obstetrics, and delivery. We serve the canine reproductive and breeding needs of Lincoln, Prairie Grove, Farmington, Summers, and beyond.
Understanding Our Reproductive Services
Smithers Animal Hospital-Lincoln is there for you from conception to birth. We are able to test for infertility in males and females for breeding purposes. Our staff is also able to collect semen, conduct vaginal cytology to determine the best day to breed, provide artificial insemination, and assist with natural breeding.
Once your female is bred, we have ultrasound technology to detect pregnancy and to use in later stages of pregnancy to determine the number of puppies you can expect. Our staff will help you during the pregnancy to keep the mother healthy and growing at a safe rate with her babies.
Our hospital puts the same level of care and attention to detail in our canine reproductive services as you do with your kennel.

What to Expect From Breeding to Birth
Each stage of the process has its own services. Explore them below:
Infertility Testing
We are able to test for infertility in males and females for breeding purposes, helping you understand why a breeding hasn’t worked and what options you have.
Breeding & Artificial Insemination
Our staff can collect semen, conduct vaginal cytology to determine the best day to breed, provide artificial insemination, and assist with natural breeding. Progesterone testing in our in-clinic laboratory helps pinpoint her fertile window.
Pregnancy Ultrasound
We use ultrasound to detect pregnancy and, in later stages, to determine the number of puppies you can expect, so you can prepare for delivery.
Whelping Support & Cesarean Sections
When it is time for your pet to deliver, we can help by providing delivery services, or advising you on how to safely monitor a delivery in your own home. Certain types of pets require cesarean sections for delivery, and that will be done within our hospital by a qualified veterinarian and trained staff.

Reproductive Services: Frequently Asked Questions
What reproductive services do you offer?
We help breeders with infertility, breeding, insemination, obstetrics, and delivery. That includes infertility testing for males and females, semen collection, vaginal cytology and progesterone testing to time breeding, artificial insemination, natural breeding assistance, pregnancy ultrasound, delivery services, and cesarean sections in our hospital.
How do you determine the best day to breed?
Our staff conducts vaginal cytology to determine the best day to breed, and we can pair it with progesterone testing in our in-clinic laboratory. Call us when you first notice your female coming into heat so we can start tracking her cycle in time.
Can you tell how many puppies my dog is having?
Yes. We use ultrasound to detect pregnancy and, in later stages of pregnancy, to determine the number of puppies you can expect. Knowing what to expect helps you prepare for delivery and recognize if labor isn’t progressing as it should.
Will my dog need a cesarean section?
Certain types of pets require cesarean sections for delivery, and some deliveries need one if labor doesn’t progress normally. When a C-section is needed, it is done within our hospital by a qualified veterinarian and trained staff. We can also advise you on how to safely monitor a delivery at home.
How do I schedule a reproductive services appointment and what are your hours?
